Description:

East Asia, Korea, Silla Dynasty, ca. 668 to 935 CE. A handsome wheel-thrown blackware pottery jar with a flat base, a squat neck, and a petite flared rim. The vessel has a rounded body with two slightly flattened sides, and a gently sloped shoulder that tapers in to form the corseted neck and a flared rim. The interior cavity is deep, and the exterior is adorned with stippling marks. This vessel was perhaps used to store various types of foodstuffs, and the size suggests it was meant for use in a personal home rather than a large storehouse. This piece comes with a vintage silk storage box. Size of vessel: 7.8" W x 11.5" H (19.8 cm x 29.2 cm); size of box: 17.25" L x 10.125" W x 9.5" H (43.8 cm x 25.7 cm x 24.1 cm)
