Description:

Western/Central Europe, Franks or Ostrogoths, ca. 6th century CE. A beautiful bronze fibula or brooch with a crescent-shaped head topped with five radiating knobs. The arching central bow joins the head to the lozenge-shaped lower section which has six petite nodules protruding from the peripheries. Within both the upper and lower sections are intricate curvilinear filigree patterns that create a wondrous presentation. The verso still retains its original pin clasp where the tip of the original pin would have rested within. Size: 1.4" W x 2.5" H (3.6 cm x 6.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
