Eastern Europe, ca. 6th century CE. Two fine bronze fibulae in the form of horses with riders holding ‘face’ shields. Tiny suspension hole at top of face shield of one, the other missing. Size: 1-1/8"L (3 cm) and 1-1/4"L (3.1 cm). Provenance: Ex-I.I. collection, South Africa; English collection acquired in the 1980s; Munich art market, 2008.
