Native American, Midwestern United States, Illinois, Cahokia Mound region, Archaic to Woodland period, ca. 1000 BCE to 1500 CE. A collection of 6 worked stone tools and pendants made by Native American peoples in southwestern Illinois, close to the site of the famous Cahokia mounds. Included is a boat stone, a banded slate elliptical gorget with drilled tips, a redstone pendant with a single hole, a redstone cone, a thick hardstone pendant with a single hole, and an unusual polished banded slate game piece or preform. This preform has an asymmetrical profile with lobed sides, worked by human hands and polished- perhaps a preform of a cone or bannerstone. Size (large hardstone pendant): 3.25" L x 1.5" W (8.3 cm x 3.8 cm)
