Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Middle Horizon period, Nazca or Wari (Huari), ca. 500 to 900 CE; Central Coast Peru, Chimu, Chancay, & Inca, ca. 1100 to 1500 CE. A collection of six Peruvian textile fragments made from camelid wool and cotton, showcasing a wide variety of techniques, motifs, and colors. Two pieces, one with dark blue interlocking motifs and the other in red, are both from the Nazca-Wari period. The Wari and the succeeding Chancay culture both created dye-painted cotton textiles, as seen in the beige-gray piece. A looser weave textile in beige features vibrant embroidery, while a vibrant red textile displays brocaded registers in blue, red, yellow, green, and white, along with a zigzag pattern in bright hues. These would be lovely framed together or displayed as separate pieces. Size of painted textile: 15" L x 9" W (38.1 cm x 22.9 cm)
