Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Northwestern Europe, England, ca. 13th to 16th century CE. A great collection of 6 iron arrowheads of different shapes and varying sizes, and a crossbow bolt. One of the heads is a trilobate shape with a petite tang and 2 of the heads have petaloid, flat blades and socketing shafts. The longest has a socketing shaft with a wrought, twisted neck before lengthy wings. The arrow bolt for a crossbow has a socketed body and a diamond-shaped head that tapers to a pointed tip. Crossbows were incredibly advantageous weapons when used against comparatively primitive bows and arrows as they surpassed the accuracy, firing rate, and lethality of even the most well-constructed bows. An interesting group that may have been used in battle, all covered with a rich russet brown patina. Size of largest: 4.5" L x 1" W (11.4 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000
