Description:

East Asia, China, from Han to Qing (Ching) Dynasties, ca. 175 BCE to 1600 CE. A group of six bronze, copper, brass, and leaded bronze coins, each from a different dynasty. They are mounted on white cardstock with written labels. From top left: Western Han, Wang Mang, Tang, Northern Song, Ming, and Qing (Ching). Each coin has a square opening though the center. The remarkable uniformity of style across millennia was due to the mold casting technique that expedited the process exponentially compared to the cut and hammer process employed in most of Europe. The annual output of coinage under the Song Dynasty in 1085 was over six billion coins! Size of largest coin: 1.1" W (2.8 cm); smallest coin: 0.91" W (2.3 cm); size of cardstock: 6.375" L x 5" W (16.2 cm x 12.7 cm)
