Description:

Western / Central Europe, Migration Period, ca. 5th to 6th century CE. A cast-bronze ornamental attachment bearing a set of 6 forearm-shaped bells hanging from 6 ringlets attached beneath a rectangular panel, each idiophone suspended by a clenched hand. The panel is adorned with 3 pairs of protruding circular bosses beneath a register of granulated pyramids. Size: 2.75" W x 2.675" H (7 cm x 6.8 cm); 3.7" H (9.4 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Provenance: ex-Royal Athena Galleries, New York City, New York, USA; ex-Hermann Historica, Munich, Germany, 2008; ex-private German collection
  • Condition: Losses to lower peripheries of some bells as shown. Minor earthen deposits and surface oxidation, otherwise in great condition. Nice patina throughout.
