Near East, Byzantine Empire, ca. 5th to 8th century CE. A lovely collection of 5 pottery oil lamps, all with wicked spouts, annular fill holes, pointed handles, and adorned with various striated, foliate, and geometric relief motifs. One lamp is discoid in form, while the remaining 4 are in the traditional shape of a teardrop. Three lamps have maker's marks on their bases, each of an abstract, floral design. Size: 4.1" L x 3" W x 2.1" H (10.4 cm x 7.6 cm x 5.3 cm)

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired before 2003
