Description:

Native American, Midwest United States, Illinois and Missouri, Pike County (only largest), Archaic Period to Woodland Period, ca. 3000 BCE to 1000 CE. A wonderful ensemble of 5 large, hand-knapped stone arrowheads boasting creamy hues of beige, honey, taupe, gray, and misty rose. Hailing from areas of Illinois and Missouri, these impressive weapons exhibit diverse forms. The first and largest is ovoid with an elongated, lanceolate body, a convex base, and a narrow tip. Next, the other beige-hued point features a contracting, straight stem, a horizontal shoulder, a straight shoulder edge, and a straight blade. The third arrowhead is a shade of light pink and displays an expanding stem, a corner notch, an inward recurvate blade, a rounded shoulder edge, and a barbed shoulder. The fourth also showcases a pinkish tint with a leaf-shaped body, an excurvate blade, an upward angle shoulder, and a convex base. Size of largest: 5.3" L x 1.6" W (13.5 cm x 4.1 cm)

Last and most petite, the taupe-colored implement presents a corner notch, a flared stem, an excurvate blade, a rounded shoulder edge, a barbed shoulder, and a straight base. Four of the points are inscribed with the locations in which they were found with 2 displaying "MO" for Missouri, 1 showing "ILL." for Illinois, and a fourth featuring "PIKE CO. ILL." for Pike County, Illinois.

Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000
