Central Asia, Afghanistan / Pakistan / India, Turkmenistan, Islamic & Tekke, Uzbek, Aimaq cultures, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A collection of 5 vibrant textile kufi caps, each hand embroidered and / or embellished with buttons, beads, and mirror shards. Variations of this type of hat are used in Islamic cultures throughout Asia and have various names, such as taqiyah, tahya, and topi. Included is an Uzbek / Aimaq kilim style: bold orange with purple and black motifs, a Turkmen cap embroidered in threads of orange, black, and white, and three from Northwestern India / Afghanistan heavily embroidered, with additional buttons and mirrors known as shisha. Size: 6" Diameter x 3.25" H (15.2 cm x 8.3 cm)
