United States, "Where's Charley?" Playbill, 1949 CE. A 1949 Playbill for the musical "Where's Charley" at the St. James Theatre in New York, featuring cover art by Al Hirschfeld depicting Ray Bolger (yes, Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz) and choreographed by the famed George Balanchine. This show was based on the Brandon Thomas's "Charlie's Aunt" and George Abbott's book. It features wonderful vintage black and white ads (cigarette, flashy cars, high fashion) from this Golden Era of theater. As a nice complement, four pieces made from re-purposed metal commercial products including a car made from old Schweppes cans, a model shelter made from Spanish sardine cans, a lidded box made from Black Label beer cans, and a Quaker State motor oil can with a loop handle. Size: Playbill measures 6.5" W x 9" H (16.5 cm x 22.9 cm)
