Robert Redbird Jr. (Native American, Kiowa, 1939-2016). Four gouache/mixed media on board paintings, n.d. Each is hand-signed with Redbird's signature and feather symbol on the lower right. A special ensemble of four paintings by Kiowa artist Robert Redbird Jr. - son of Robert Redbird Sr. and grandson of Monroe Tsatoke who was one of the renowned "Kiowa Five" artists. Redbird pays homage to his Kiowa heritage with a vibrant color palette, elegant blanket-wrapped indigenous figures, and the inclusion of sacred birds, feathers, and Native American symbols. All four paintings are mounted in matching black custom frames with white mattes, creating a classic surround for Redbird's stunning artworks. Size of sight view (figure in red blanket holding feathers): 7.5" L x 4.625" W (19 cm x 11.7 cm) Size of frame: 10.875" L x 8" W (27.6 cm x 20.3 cm)

Upon Redbird's death in 2016, Brad Henry (then-governor of Oklahoma, Redbird's native state) honored the artist with the following statement, "Robert Redbird's art is full of his conviction that Native American culture is a beautiful way of life and his art conveys his feeling for Kiowa tradition and ceremonies, for the spiritual in the culture of many tribes and for the world of nature."

Robert Redbird was born in Oklahoma in 1939 to Kiowa parents - his family's tribal affiliation to the Kiowa Gourd Clan. From the start, Redbird demonstrated a keen interest in art. As his technique improved, Redbird especially excelled in watercolor and featured Kiowa folklore in his paintings. He also included Native American pottery, eagles, feathers and mountains in his compositions. Redbird has preserved Kiowa culture through his artwork. Two of his original paintings may be seen in the permanent collection of the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona.
