Description:

Ancient near east, Sassanian and Persian Empires, ca. 500 to 900 CE. Set of 4 Sassanian stone seals, each of domed form with seal image incised into flat plain. Smallest and perhaps finest is deep orange carnelian incised with running zoomorph. Next is a deep green, probably jasper, possibly from eastern Afghanistan, this example with running antelope - mouflon. Third example is a large orangish quartz incised with what appears to be a man on horseback, although image is a bit abstract. Finally, a tall domed example in agate with simplified antelope running right. Additionally, lot includes leaded bronze child's or young woman's bracelet with raised elements. Size of bracelet: 2.375" W (6 cm) Size of largest seal: .75" W x .625" H (1.9 cm x 1.6 cm)
