Ancient Near East, Sassanian (also Sasanian, Sassanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 5th century CE. A fabulous ensemble of 4 stamp seal beads from the Sassanian Empire. The 2 larger are both made of chalcedony with one incised with an altar and the other featuring a bird or cock. Alternatively, the 2 more petite beads are carved from carnelian, yet similarly one displays a fire altar and the other a device, symbol, or glyph. Size of largest (chalcedony with bird): 0.7" L x 0.6" W x 0.8" H (1.8 cm x 1.5 cm x 2 cm)
