Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 500 CE. A great collection of 4 ancient Mexican pottery vessels from various shaft tombs cultures of the region - each with finely molded shapes and painted motifs- the squat tripodal bowl has a lovely curvilinear patterning from resist painting, and the ribbed jar resembles a gourd. While perhaps utilitarian these could have been used for storing food, drink, or even offerings for the deceased to take to the afterlife. Size of tallest pot: 6" W x 6.75" H (15.2 cm x 17.1 cm)

  • Condition: Loss to rim of ribbed pot. Painted pot with sharply carinated body is intact with fading to pigments. Chips to rims of tallest vessel and tripodal pot, and nice manganese blooms on both. No repairs or restoration!
