Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco & Colima cultures, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Ecuador, Bahia culture, ca. 300 to 500 CE; Colombia, Quimbaya culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A gathering of 4 hand-built pottery figures. First is a Quimbaya figure with attenuated legs and slit-form facial features. Next is a Colima figure standing atop slender legs and wearing a thick necklace atop the clavicle. Third is a Jalisco white-painted figure with decorative red stripes, arched feet, and a fan-shaped forehead. The largest is a Bahia nude female with a septum ring, petite breasts, and decorations using black and red pigment. Size of largest (Bahia): 3.25" W x 7.625" H (8.3 cm x 19.4 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection, acquired from various auction houses and dealers before 2002

  • Condition: Repairs to Quimbaya, Jalisco, and Bahia figures, with restoration to areas of Jalisco figure; Colima figure is intact. All have abrasions, fading to pigment, light earthen deposits, and softening to some finer details. Nice preservation to overall forms.
