Native American, United States - Scott County, Virginia; Watauga County, North Carolina; Pike County, Missouri; Calhoun County, Illinois - Late Archaic to Late Woodlands, Adena and undefined, ca. 3000 to 1200 BP (1000 BCE to 800 CE). A nice collection of 4 hand knapped stone tools, including three chert celts and a slate adze. The three celts are formed to present slightly convex faces with a wide cutting edge and a narrow handle or gripping end. The slate adze has flat faces with a wide and straight cutting edge with a narrow edge. These tools would have served a variety of purposes such as scraping hides or digging. Size of frame: 8" L x .675" W x 11" H (20.3 cm x 1.7 cm x 27.9 cm); Size of largest celt: 3.75" L x 1.8" W (9.5 cm x 4.6 cm)
