Description:

Ancient Near East, Holy Land, ca. 1st millennium BCE to 3rd century CE. A set of 4 hand-built pottery vessels, each with at least 1 thick handle and a slightly flared rim. The 2 most petite vessels have minimal lips, perhaps used for medicinal products, and the second-largest vessel has a uniformly flared rim meant for pouring. The largest vessel exhibits a pair of petite handles that indicate it was perhaps used as a serving vessel. Size of largest: 6" W x 6.2" H (15.2 cm x 15.7 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Jay I. Kislak collection, 1980s to 1990s

  • Condition: Repair to handle of smallest and second-largest vessels, and chips to rim of largest vessel; second-smallest vessel is intact and very good. Each vessel with encrustations and earthen deposits, age-commensurate abrasions, and chipping. Nice preservation to overall forms.
