Martin Engelbrecht (German, 1684-1756). Four copper engravings with hand coloring, 18th century. A wonderful ensemble of four hand-colored engravings by German Baroque engraver Martin Engelbrecht, featuring two officers on horseback, one standing officer who proudly holds a sword and shield, and a fourth striding figure who also wields weapons. Each engraving presents with vivid imagery, vibrant color, and German calligraphic text below as well as "C.P. Maj" (lower left) and "Mart. Engelbrecht excud (or excudit) A.V." (lower right). All are set in matching custom frames to create a wonderful display. Size of frames: 18" L x 13.75" W (45.7 cm x 34.9 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-private Arkansas, USA collection, via descent in 2021; ex-private Florida estate, USA, acquired from the 1960s to 1970s

  • Condition: Engravings are set in custom frames behind glass and have not been examined outside the framing. This said, they all present vivid images with vibrant hand coloring and legible German calligraphic text below. Frames are excellent save minute scuffs that are difficult to see and torn gallery paper on versos. All are wired for display.
