Description:

East Asia, China, late Ming Dynasty, ca. 16th to 17th century CE. A collection of blue on white Swatow porcelain - 3 pots and small lidded jar. The 2 largest pots have evidence they spent time in the ocean with white calcite and marine encrustations - the protrusion on the smaller one is actually barnacles! The blue scrolling motifs on these are often referred to as Swatow or Zhangzhou style and were primarily made for export to Southeast Asia and along the Maritime Silk Road. The unfortunate cargo ships that sank during transit have been discovered in recent times with hoards of pottery similar to those pieces! Size of largest: 3.5" Diameter x 3.25" H (8.9 cm x 8.3 cm)

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010
