Description:

Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. This hefty mold-made terracotta oil lamp vessel features a flat base, rough but rounded sides, pinched shoulders with a linear motif visible along its edges, a large recessed tondo with a raised encircling ring of stamped dots as well as a petite fill hole, a large and pierced circular handle, and a tangential narrow wick spout. The weathering and rich encrustations on this lamp indicate it was likely found underwater. Size: 6.5" L x 4" W x 2.6" H (16.5 cm x 10.2 cm x 6.6 cm)
