North Africa, Morocco, Devonian to Cretaceous, ca. 409 to 66 million years ago. A stunning collection of 38 ammonite fossils that not only fossilized but many have pyritized and opalized forming a shimmering golden and coppery-red hues from mineralization. Other shells are an inky black from hematite, an iron rich mineralization. Included is a single spiked shell from a prehistoric gastropod, and this shell has also not only undergone fossilization, but agatization due to a silica based permineralization. A total of 39 shells that could be fashioned into jewelry if one desired! Size of largest: 2.75" L x 0.75" W (7 cm x 1.9 cm); smallest: 0.45" Diameter (1.1 cm)

  • Condition: Chips and losses throughout. Stabilizing material added to chambers on a few. The largest ammonite has extensive losses to the exterior shell on one side. A clear stabilizing coating has been added to some ammonites.
