Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau (French, 1700-1782) was a respected French botanist as well as a physician and naval engineer. Duhamel conducted experimental research on plant physiology and ecology and published numerous works on agriculture, trees, and shrubs. His "Trait des arbres fruitiers" (1768) was one of the rarest and finest botanical books issued from France during the period from the late 18th to the early 19th century.
Pierre Joseph Redoute (French, 1759-1840) was born into a family of artists in what we call Belgium today. From an early age, his family recognized his talent and Redoute was encouraged to pursue his art. In time, Redoute became associated with royals, having five queens and empresses of France, from Marie-Antoinette to the Empress Josephine and her successor, Marie-Louise, for pupils or patrons. Although he lived during a turbulent period with many regime changes, Redoute was able to work without interruptions in his career, and created over fifty books on natural history and archeology.

- Condition: All present with vivid imagery and strong hues. Expected age wear with slight toning. Slight scattered foxing on "Galande". All with nicely defined plate marks and handwritten notes in the margins. All are mounted (hinged at top) in lovely sage green mats with tone on tone leaf patterns.
