Native American, Southern United States, Missouri, Mississippian culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A wonderful collection of 3 hand-knapped stone tools with flattened faces and tapering, triangular blades. All three are made from chert in hues of gray, creamy beige, and orange. The knapping tools required patience and skill to create the desired shape without shattering the stone. These skillfully knapped tools may have been designed to mount on a wooden handle and likely served a variety of purposes such as spear tips or knives. Size largest point: 4.5" L x 2" W (11.4 cm x 5.1 cm); case: 12.125" L x .75" W x 8.125" H (30.8 cm x 1.9 cm x 20.6 cm)

Provenance: private Kansas City, Missouri, USA collection; ex-John Townsend collection, formed in the 1970s and earlier.
