Latin America, Mexico or Guatemala, ca. early 20th century CE. Three hand-carved and painted wooden festival masks, a skull, one surmounted with a skeleton, and the other with snakes. Wooden masks in Mexico and Guatemala were used in traditional dances and theatrical performances to depict historical and mythical narratives. Some festivals include Day of the Dead - which the skull and skeleton may have been made for. Size of skull: 11.25" L x 8.5" W (28.6 cm x 21.6 cm)
