Description:

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A collection of three faience amulets that may have been worn in life or used in funerary practices to ensure safe passage into the afterlife. The largest amulet depicts the goddess Isis seated upon a throne, feeding her infant son Horus. The conical amulet features a pointed lower tip and a pierced suspension loop, representing a papyrus scepter or column (known as "wadj" in Egyptian), named after the plant from which papyrus was made. The last amulet depicts a pig standing on all fours on an integral base. Pigs were associated with fertility and agriculture due to their connection to the earth and their role in farming practices. Size of Isis: 0.67" L x 0.41" W x 1.6" H (1.7 cm x 1 cm x 4.1 cm)

Provenance: private London, UK collection; ex-F. Becker collection, Munich, Germany, 1980s
