Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima culture, ca. 200 BCE - 200 CE. This a very special ensemble of shaft tomb figures, each one representing a female in a different stage of pregnancy with hands clasped together just above the womb. The first is adorned with a headdress or fanciful coiffure, ear ornaments, a pectoral, armbands, and a snug fitting garment hugging her baby bump, painted in cream-hued slip with diagonal striated patterning. The central figure on the stand also dons a headdress, ear ornaments, pectoral with pendant, and a garment with incised geometric decoration. Finally, the third figure simply wears headdress, ear ornaments, pectoral with pendant, but little else. Of the three, her pregnancy is in its earliest stages, but there is a slight protrusion at the womb area. Mounted on a custom, wood-block stand. Each figure measures approximately 6 1/4" tall. Provenance: Ex-private Laguna Niguel, CA collection, acquired prior to 1995. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
