Description:

South Asia, India, ca. 19th century CE. A fine trio of silver and gilt silver deities mounted on greenstone ( aventurine) plinths with a scallop or lotus shaped ornamentation. The first seated deity has four arms, two holding a barrel shaped drum and the other two raised by his head. While the body is human and ornately robed, the face is long and bovine, and likely the god Nandi. Next is a seated figure, whose legs are crossed on a lotus pedestal, and his hands form a bhumisparsha mudra. The last deity is cross-legged as well, with four arms holding a small figure or child on his lap. One hand holds a mace, and the face is that of a monkey, suggesting that this is probably the deity Hanuman. Size of tallest: 1.625" W x 1.5625" H (4.1 cm x 4 cm); smallest: 1.625" W x 1.5" H (4.1 cm x 3.8 cm); quality of silver (from left to right) 86%, 85%, 81%
