Ancient Eastern Europe, Forest-Steppe region, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A beautiful cast-bronze brooch of a tall triangular form with several openwork panels decorating the body. The bottom bears flared, pointed projections beneath a rectangular bar that mimics a fish tail. The upper section of the brooch has radiating triangular punch-outs beneath a pair of wide diamond forms, and between the projecting upper terminals is a tightly coiled copper wire with a lengthy central pin. The brooch body is covered in thick, dark green layers of patina that create an attractive presentation. Size: 2.125" W x 4.2" H (5.4 cm x 10.7 cm)
