Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, ca. 0 to 1000 CE. A lovely ensemble of twenty-four terracotta spindle whorls in various shapes and sizes. Nine items have bulbous saucer-shaped bodies; two items have large bodies with nubbin-shaped top sections; and the remaining thirteen items have disc-shaped bodies with small upraised handles. Each spindle whorl is vertically-perforated for suspension, and each item displays intricately-incised, fine-line details in linear, circular, crosshatch, zigzag, oval-shaped, triangular, and/or semicircular motifs. This collection is a richly-hued set as well, with surface colors ranging from light and dark brown to coral and umber, and from deep red to bright pink. A dazzling ensemble of richly-detailed miniature pottery pieces! Size of largest: 2" Diameter (5.1 cm).
