Arctic New World, Thule culture and Inuit people, ca. 1000 to 1900 CE. A collection of stone, teeth, and bone artifacts, from the prehistoric and historic Arctic. First, eight chert knapped projectile points / knives, many of them for use in harpoons. Second, a group of four carved teeth, probably from a walrus. Third, eleven bone artifacts, made from marine mammals or caribou: a group of five amulets with abstract anthropomorphic shapes, incised with multiple concentric circles and dots and each pierced for suspension; two harpoon pieces; two polished snow knives for cutting snow to create igloos; and a chisel. Finally, a very rare ceramic tool for working with textiles. All displayed together in a shadow box. Size of largest (ceramic): 8.75" L (22.2 cm) Size of box: 16.25" W x 12.2" H (41.3 cm x 31 cm)

  • Condition: The bone artifacts have heavy patina indicating their age. Several have small losses from their edges. The amulets are all in nice condition with yellow-hued patinas from age and handling. The stone tools have some minor losses. Some pieces have collection stickers.
