Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A beautifully preserved intaglio of an ovoid form, hand-carved from crimson-hued jasper. The intaglio has a slightly beveled periphery, and the flat face bears an etched bust of an elite male with a coiffure of tight curls. The intaglio is set within the bezel of a modern 22K+ gold ring with a thick shank, wide shoulders, and a squat bezel rim. A gorgeous and wearable example of fine Roman artistry! Size (intaglio): 0.4" L x 0.3" W (1 cm x 0.8 cm); (ring): 0.75" W x 0.9" H (1.9 cm x 2.3 cm); quality of gold: 22K+; total weight: 6 grams; US ring size 6.25.
