Southeast Asia, northern Laos near Vietnam, Katu peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden crossbow with broad bow arm mounted inside the front of the slender body. The back end exhibits a tapered, arrow-shaped handle behind a simple trigger mechanism which loosed the bolts balanced atop the carved groove along the top of the body. Size: 17.4" L x 32.8" W (44.2 cm x 83.3 cm)
