Description:

North America, USA, ca. mid 20th century CE. A handsomely carved femur from a cow or other large ungulate, with the artist taking advantage of a natural growth on one end to incorporate it into the carving. Depicted in relief along the length of the bone - which has one end cleanly cut away to allow the sculpture to stand vertically - is the nude body of a woman. Her head, with dramatic turban, rises from the back of the bone, just behind the patellar surface, with one arm thrown back behind her head and the other in relief below the large condyte structures. The sculptor has done an excellent job of using the natural form of this special bone to create a striking image. Size: 4.8" W x 11.25" H (12.2 cm x 28.6 cm); 12.75" H (32.4 cm) on included custom stand.
