Description:

North America, United States, Illinois, Lake County, Vernon Country Club, ca. 1940s to 1950s CE. A rare pair of "loaded" plastic dice from the Vernon Country Club - an elaborate establishment opened in 1943 by Rocco Fischetti, cousin of Al Capone. Each white dice presents 6 sides, all displaying target-motif pips indicating the numbers 1 through 6 with "VERNON / CC" inscribed around the pip for number 1. Designed to throw 7s more often than usual, the bookie would be able to tell the difference between these and legitimate dice due to how the numbers were burned; loaded dice, like these examples, are situated so deuces are up when the "VERNON / CC" is on the side, while legal dice instead present 5s on top when placed the same way. A fair pair of dice will produce a sum of 7 about 16.67% of the time, which is still a higher chance than any other number. However, when these dice were rolled 30 times, they produced a 7 for 23.33% of the rolls, giving one a significantly higher advantage! Size (both the same): 0.625" L x 0.625" W (1.6 cm x 1.6 cm)
