Description:

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Milne Bay Province, Trobriand Islands (sometimes Kiriwina Islands), Massim people, ca. 1940s CE. A delicately-carved dark wood lime spatula. The upper portion - the handle - is decorated with scrollwork that forms a zoomorphic, possibly abstract avian face. The spoon then tapers to a long, flat, teardrop shape. Size: 1" W x 6.4" H (2.5 cm x 16.3 cm); 7.55" H (19.2 cm) on included custom stand.
