Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Tlingit, ca. 1960s CE, signed by A. Johnson. A gorgeous hand-carved dark wooden ceremonial rattle in the form of a killer whale. The long body is carved with deep linear and geometric symbols; the tail curls up to rest against the back with zoomorphic motifs on its underside. A cylindrical handle extends out from behind the tail. A tall fin rises from the center with another zoomorphic face carved into its base. The carver's identity is unknown. Size: 11.95" W x 8" H (30.4 cm x 20.3 cm)
