Central Asia, Tibet, ca. mid 20th century CE. A large cast bronze statue of the god Shiva, wearing an ornate crowned headdress. Two of his four arms are raised, each holding an attribute, while the other two are clasped in front of his stomach. His body is depicted as youthful and muscular, with his face in a meditative posture, including downcast eyes. The god has been given beautiful clothing and ornament and stands atop a lotus flower pedestal, with a dramatic halo behind his head. Shiva is a god who represents contrasting values, peace and destruction and lust and purity. Size: 13.5" W x 38" H (34.3 cm x 96.5 cm)
