Oceania, Solomon Islands, ca. mid 20th century CE. A wooden supe or subi war club of simple form, with a wide pointed paddle head that is bisected by a raised rib. The rib runs about a third of the way down the lengthy club, and the wood is polished to a matte sheen. The supe club is a traditional weapon for raids and ambush type of fighting. The most ornate clubs were reserved for chiefs and served a ritualistic purpose in ceremonies and dances. Size: 2.5" W x 39.5" H (6.4 cm x 100.3 cm); 41" H (104.1 cm) on included custom stand.
