Description:

Native American, Canadian Arctic, Inuit, ca. 20th century CE. Signed "ANGELIK / 1042/1 / E8738" on base. A pleasing and whimsical soapstone carving of 2 intuits partaking in acrobatics with one seated and the other tumbling over his head. Both heavily clothed in hooded coats, thick pants, and boots, the larger figure sits with legs spread before him and arms extended as he bends slightly downward. The other figure seemingly flies over him, placing hands on his companion's feet and just barely touching his head. Truly a skillful rendering of a challenging and lively composition! Size: 5" L x 1.5" W x 4.4" H (12.7 cm x 3.8 cm x 11.2 cm)
