Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, New Mexico, Santo Domingo Pueblo, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A lovely parfleche bag of a cylindrical form, made from tanned hide and painted with lovely polychrome pigments. The vessel has a stitched base, tall walls, a separate lid secured with lengths of leather cord, and a suspension strap handle comprised of thin, tightly braided leather strips. The white bag is decorated with abstract floral motifs, a three-lobed form in the center with a blue moon and a yellow sun on either side, and two abstract anthropoid figures along the bottom. Pyramidal motifs along the lid rim are presented in a red-and-black color scheme. Size: 4.125" W x 12.875" H (10.5 cm x 32.7 cm).
