Mel Good Jr. (Salish, b. 20th century). "Turtle" wood and abalone shell, n.d. Signed with title on verso. A graceful wooden plaque of a turtle, hand-carved by Mel Good Jr. of the Snuneymuxw Nation. The stylized animal is carved from cedar and enveloped in a lustrous, dark finish that brings out the deep shadows of its abstract designs. Seventeen circular inlays of abalone shell additionally adorn the piece; their pearly white appearance beautifully contrasting the dark espresso hue of the wood. Size: 13.25" W x 7.5" H (33.7 cm x 19 cm)
