Eastern Europe, Caucasus region, Cossack / Russia, ca. mid-20th century CE. A lovely high quality 90% silver niello buckle with a clever interlocking clasp held in place by a kindjal dagger shaped pin. The verso contains a pair of loops for wearing on a belt strap and is marked "BEKIR / SILVER." These buckles were fashionable in Czarist Russia in the 19th to early 20th century, and this piece is wearable and in great condition. Size: 3.35" L x 2" W (8.5 cm x 5.1 cm); silver quality: 90%; weight: 38.4 grams
