Native American, Southwestern United States, Peeposh / Piipaash (Maricopa), Santa Clara and Acoma Pueblo, ca. early to late 20th century CE. A collection of 5 handmade and painted pottery vessels from Native American tribes of the southwest, including 4 pots and a basket shaped vessel. All are hand painted with geometric or floral patterns on red or buff grounds. One pot signed "GPR / ACOMA / NM" is deeply etched with linear motifs on the lower half of the hemispherical body. Size of tallest: 4" Diameter x 5" H (10.2 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010

  • Condition: Handle repaired and reattached to basket and chip to rim of etched redware pot, rest are intact. Some surface wear and fading to painted pigments. Signatures are faints and somewhat legible. Old inventory labels on bases of each.
