Oceania, Papua New Guinea, ca. 20th century CE. A handsome door on a wooden frame with two large panels of bark on the front, lashed in place with thick fibrous rope. The front is decorated with color red, orange, white and black motifs of two standing figures with both male and female characteristics. Door boards are usually boldly carved with geometric designs and painted in bright colors like this example. Carving and home building are traditional pursuits in Papua New Guinea. Size: 26.25" W x 50" H (66.7 cm x 127 cm)
