Papua New Guinea, Middle Sepik, Abunti Iatmul Village, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A finely carved wooden standing figural flute stop with archetypal facial features, large forehead, stylized coiffure adorned with human hair, inlaid cowrie shell eyes, flared nostrils and elongated beak sweeping down to the chest. Size: measures 16-1/2"L (42 cm).
