Oceania, Papua New Guinea, West Sepik Province, Torricelli Mountains, Yilli Village, ca. 20th century CE. A tall, thin, wooden spear with a shark-tooth-shaped carved form below its thin point. The surface is painted with dramatic white and red dots and lines over thick black pigment. The blade has a wicker wrap at its base, as does the long, cylindrical handle. An elegant weapon! Size: 2" W x 76.5" H (5.1 cm x 194.3 cm); 77.25" H (196.2 cm) on included custom stand.
