Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Bella Coola, Southern British Columbia, Nuxalk people, ca. mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved cedar mask, possibly representing the mythical Nuxalk figure, the singer of the house of myths. The figure's face is depicted with the mouth wide open as if in the act of singing, with deepset, round eyes, and a highly decorated face surrounded by fur. Wooden "teardrops" hang from the face. Size: 13" W x 14.75" H (33 cm x 37.5 cm); 21" H (53.3 cm) on included custom stand.
