Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A beautiful totem pole carved from finely grained red cedar atop a separate discoid platform. The pole is intricately carved in three dimensions and features (from bottom to top) a seated human figure with ovoid eyes outlined in white and black, an abstract frog or lizard with discoid eyes facing upwards, and a red-faced bear with a tapered snout and perky ears. The composition is embellished with black, red, white, yellow, and green hues that imbue each totemic figure with a pop of color. Size: 1.1" W x 9.9" H (2.8 cm x 25.1 cm); 10.7" H (27.2 cm) on attached wooden platform.

  • Condition: Minor abrasions and nicks to human, frog/lizard, bear, and attached platform, with fading and chipping to original pigment, and minor softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and great remains of original pigment throughout. The words "To Dad" written in graphite on verso of totem pole body.
